1. Assures compliance with OBRA, JCAHO and other regulatory and/or accrediting bodies. Prepares and implements plans of correction as directed by the Administrator, Health Care Services.
2. Assures the preparation of the operating and capital budgets for area of responsibility. Remains accountable for the operational and financial performance of the Nursing Service Department.
3. Supports the CQAI initiative including Nursing Quality Improvement. Serves in a leadership role regarding quality through role modeling, positive behavior, requiring the presence of quality monitors and developing standards of care.
4. Personally provides and assures praise and recognition is provided to employees. Assures timely performance appraisals of all direct reports. Oversees recruitment and recognition efforts of the Nursing Department. Collaborates with Assistant Director of Nursing, other managers and Human Resources personnel regarding nursing recruitment. Interviews prospective employees and participates in the selection process. Collaborates with Assistant Director of Nursing to assure posting of open positions. Assists Human Resources with orientation and training of new personnel.
5. Guides the implementation of creative staffing and scheduling practices that assures adequate, quality staffing. Responsible to lead the process for adequate staffing levels when serving as the nursing administrative person on-call.
6. Serves as nursing administrative person on-call periodically. Responds to urgent, clinical and nursing administrative matters. Assures an appropriate response time when on-call.
7. Contributes and supports organizational development and training through training and direct involvement as necessary.
